Walmart Express Lube Service...did you ever use it?

I was early for a business meeting this morning and across the street was a Walmart, I was never in one before so I stopped by to kill some time, this particular one had an Express Lube Service and the display sign had a $55 synthetic oil change so I’m thinking they must use some cheap synthetic oil from China but to my surprise they use Mobil1 and Fram oil filters!

I’m thinking about getting my first oil change there (1000 miles). I could care less about doing it myself and even if I did it would probably cost me just as much with purchasing the Mobil1 and filter, draining the old oil, taking the old oil to my recycling center, not to mention the time and mess. Have any of you tried the Walmart Express Lube Service?

I use them regularly. I've really only had a single complaint with them. They refused to change my oil once because they didn't yet have a filter to fit my vehicle, and they wouldn't do it using the one I brought myself.

My next change will be at the dealeship though, because I have a few minor issues I want addressed under warranty, anyway.

My mazda's rod bearing went. The dealership was trying to blame the people who changed my oil (walmart). When I contacted walmart they were ready to stand up for themselves and was willing to support me as well. I later found out that alot of mazda's had this particular engine problem. I've had no problem with them. Though I guess it all depends on the mechanic you get.

Nice to hear Walmart stuck by you, did Mazda repair it?

Well the powertrain had a 50,000 mile warranty. At 49,800 miles I noticed something ticking in the engine. I called Mazda and told them about it, but it was a Monday and it couldn't be seen until Saturday. I told them it would be over warranty at that time but since I called about it now it should still be covered. They were going to 'check into it'. Never got a phone call, called them two more times. No answer.

Friday night coming home from work, she just started making a really loud knocking sound. She'd only go like 5 mph, so I limped her home and parked. Had to tow it 30 miles to the Mazda dealership. Rod bearing went, they at first said it wasn't covered. I told them I was going to fight it, that lemonlaw.com site is actually really good. I called them, talked to a lawyer, they said I had a case and they would counsel me for free.

I called Mazda corporate, they had a rep. go to the dealership and to examine the problem. They wanted past oil change receipts. They tried blaming it on an oil filter that was not put on correctly? However when they did change the oil alot of metal shavings came out. They then saw my wife bought a vehicle at their dealership 6 months prior. They said since she purchased a vehicle there they will cover it. They put in a remanufactured engine, it would've ran me $5800. I told them I was ready to fight if needed.

I ended up paying the towing costs and $18 for the fluids for the car. Seems to be runnning ok now but I'm looking to trade it in since it's out of warranty.

i never ever let walmart touch my car...had two hoods ruined...a stripped lug nut lock (nice to find out when you are on the side of the road) and once they put the wrong bolt back in the oil pan...(like from the car next to mine.) they don't pay their workers enough nor do they have any standards for them

I have used them 2x. The first time was fine. The second time found my interior covered with oil stains & fingerprints. I complained and Wal-Mart paid $200 for a detailing of the car.

I'll give them a shot next week, how can they mix up a oil pan bolt from two different cars? The bays from this Walmart are pretty far apart.

I bring my 02 neon there all the time, never had issues with them or the service. Although thats my old car, my new Bu deserves the best, so so far I have had both oil changes at the stealership.

Walmart is hit and miss. Plenty of horror stories out there, but most people seem satisfied. I used them once and had no problems. At some locations you can watch them do the work to get some piece of mind they are not messing up your car.

I'm taking my 'Bu for its first oil change tomorrow. The dealer/gm goodwrench has a special for $39 for a pretty comprehensive list of services. Sounds pretty good to me.

Guys, I would like to put my 2cent here. It is not the service brand that matters. It is the people who do it. Unless Walmart guarantee that all of their tech are AS and their workshops all follow an ISO 9001 quality assurance process, then I would be skeptical that their oil change service would be consistently good any where.
I decided learn to do the oil change myself 10 years ago as I found the unpredictable service quality from a dealer I dealt with. They had done a good job on my first 2 services. But the next 2 were horrible: the oil was overfilled and the oil pan nut got new threads! I read the bills and found that the tech did the first were no longer with the dealer.

Nobody care about your car than yourself.

A friend of mine took his '84 Corvette into walmart for an oil change. The car has the 4+3 transmission. During the check of the fluids, they noticed the transmission fluid was low so they added oil ~ 10w-30. A few miles down the road, the transmission was shot. After several months, Walmart did pay for the repair but it was a hassle. Good news was he found a NOS transmission for less than what the overhaul price was.

Do your own oil change. You only need 1 wrench and the socket for the oil filter.

If you should ever have a problem with WalMart.....remember their Auto Service is bonded. Doubt that many oil change places can claim that. If push comes to shove they will pay for any damages they caused.
