hello all, new to the site. My wife and I just bought a malibu a month ago. We think we have the 1LT but it does not have onstar or bluetooth... however we have the button on the steering wheel and the microphone above. what would it take to have the bluetooth setup? im sure we can go aftermarket but those buttons likely will not work nor the microphone. We were thinking if I get the stereo from the 2LT and swap it out we would have the bluetooth. does anyone here know much about this?

I am pretty sure that your going to have to do an aftermarket one. The last talk about this ended with I believe that the parts were not avail to do it.

There have been a couple done at my work, but they had onstar. Check with parts at a chevy dealer to find out if you can get a kit for installing it. It would require a VCIM that is made with Bluetooth connections. I am just not sure it can be done since you don't have onstar also. Anyone on here that has done it also had onstar. Search "VCIM location" and you can get a general idea of what it takes to do it if it can be done.

I have a 1LT that did not come with Bluetooth. I bought a parrot system, CK3000 Evolution and a harness. I have installed it and it works perfect. The wiring harness goes to the radio so when you get a call, the radio turns off, and you talk through the speakers. With the harness there are a lot of wires, but everything plugs into one location only, and the only wire you must connect is the power wire. It is very easy to install. My car does have Onstar, but not sure you need it or not. You could call parrot and ask a technician. It cost me less than $200.00 when I bought it, though it looks like it’s a little more than $200.00 now.

Kencar10,
Does the parrot system use the built in mike of the BU?
I have an LTZ with onstar and would like to add bluetooth.
The photos and writeup on the web site does not seem to explain this properly.

If you actually have an LTZ then you should already have BT. Did you replace your HU or just didn't realize you have BT? If you didn't know, then that's partly the fault of your sales person either not being informed enough or being too lazy to show you, or both (like mine was on the '09).

Sorry for the late response, I don't usually get to my computer on the weekends.

This system plugged directly into the cars radio with a complicated looking wiring harness, but very easy to use harness wants you look at it for a while. Each plug on the harness can only connect to one source.

When a call comes in, whatever is playing on the radio quiets down, and the ringing of your cell phone comes through the car speakers. When you answer it, you hear the caller’s voice through the speakers. Your voice is picked up by a small mic supplied with the system. I attached mine to the top of the mirror. It works great! If you need privacy, push one button and you can talk privately through your cell phone again.

Everything included can be tucked under the center console of the car, except for the small control unit and the mic of course. Now the small controller I put inside the little door to the left of the steering wheel so it would be hidden. I wanted as little evidence of the system as possible. All wires are tucked or hidden as well!

Wow, I didn't think that would be an option on the Z. I had it on my '09 2LT and have it again on my '11 Z. Thanks for sharing!

Both edmunds and consumer auto guide show the LTZ and 2LT for having standard bluetooth. The bluetooth is nice, I just have to remember to shut it off on my phone if other people are in my car. Even though it is funny when people are caught off guard with my car ringing:D.

That is slick!

If your system works like the Malibu Onstar/Bluetooth does, that's one accessory that I think is well worth the $$$ to install.

I've gone the GPS/headset/visor speaker route before for my Bluetooth connectivity, but after using the Malibu Bluetooth setup, I ain't going back! :D

Yeah I love it, works great, I can hear the caller perfectly, no issues with anyone hearing me and I love the fact you can't see anything but the small mic. You probably could tuck it into the overhead liner where the mic is for the onstar. I did get the basic unit, they have better ones with a little display so you see whos calling you. However, if I pull my phone out and leave it visable in the console, when a call comes in I can look at the phone to see who it is.

Biggest thing is to let the caller know they are on speaker if you have a passenger! :D:eek:

Hello, I know this was posted almost 3 months ago, but I am new here. I have the '10 Bu LS. It has OnStar. This Parrot CK3000 looks like it might do what I need. Do you have any pics of where you placed the unit in your car? or of the install? I do not subscribe to OnStar, but I am guessing from the posts, since the car has OnStar that there is a microphone somewhere in the car, where? This Parrot system uses that mic?

Thank you!

It comes with its own small mic which I placed on top of the rear view mirror, only see a small, maybe an inch of wire until it gets to the headliner, then its tucked in all the way to the dash. No need to remove anything to tuck it in. You probably could put the mic in the head liner where the Onstar mic is.

I put the controller in the little door to the lower left of the steering wheel.

Everything else is tucked under the center console, under the radio. All easy to get too, just pull the side panel off, held on with Velcro. The one wire needed to connect is the power, which you can use an add-a-fuse to the fuse block on the other side of the console.
