Well I took my 2008 1LT into the dealer today. The driver's headlamp had water in it and I am hearing a clunk sound from the front end when turning slow.

The dealership says they had to lube the intermediate steering shaft to remedy the clunk noise. No I wonder how long that will last until it needs lubed again? I have 32,000 miles on the car now.

The lube is a cheap/temporary fix. Had the same issue on my old G6, ended up needing a full rack. Make sure they note in the computer your issue incase it acts up again after 36K. These cars seem to have alot of issues with the steering. Mine sometimes makes a small moaning noise. I had it checked, came back "okay". But I still had them note it in the system just in case. Even though I only have 7500 miles. Keep an eye on it, yours sounds worse, and reminds me of how things started on my old G6.

I've had that 'clunking' sound in my 05 Silverado for a couple years now. About two times a year I take in intermediate shaft apart and grease the heck out of it. It's annoying but I'm told that the clunking causes no damage. My truck has 114,000 miles on it and I've never had a steering issue other then the noise and it's never gotten any worse.

That said I hate to hear that the same problem is appearing in the Malibu.

Knock on wood, we have 52,000 miles on the Malibu and no clunking yet.

I picked up the car yesterday. They replaced the headlamp assembly. For the clunk sound they had to reposition the intermediate steering shaft and lube. I asked they guy if I needed to bring it in every 32000 for this service. He said that it shouldn't happen again. I think I will call them monday and have them make a note in their system that this is a known issue while under warranty....that way it can be fixed again later.
