Before getting a new set of tires for my bu I decided to give her a bath. However that proved to be a bad idea. Going through the car wash everything was fine and dandy, however going through the blowers to dry the car... not so much. All of a sudden where the gear shift is I felt a drip..drip..drip. Then more drips and by this time I wasn't happy. I look up and sure enough above my gear shift in the over head lights I see a bead of water balancing. Once I completed my drying process I pulled over to the vacuum station to investigate. However I am not finding the hole for the water to travel to the inside. I called a few places and they are telling me its possible that the seals on my windshields (back or front) could be the culprit. However they cannot say for certain if that is the official cause. I will have to take her in and they will do a test to see the spot. I'm wondering if the salt from the snow (since we live next to the ocean) could be the problem and eroded the seals?

Re: Water leak in over head lights.

Do you have a sunroof? If not then it's most likely a poor seal on the windshield, and most likely the front. A good glass/windshield shop can help you find and fix it.

You can also start the process by carefully pulling down the overhead console cover and looking around inside. Stick some paper towels up there and see if they come out wet. If not, stick 'em up there and go through the car wash again, watching all the time. (If you wait 'til it's time to get another wash you're not spending extra! :))

Also suspect could be the OnStar/XM antenna above the rear glass, but with the slope of the roof I would think it would be leaking at the back before you ever saw it at the front.

Nope I do not have a sun room (wish I did) and we don't have the on-star system. We bought our bu used but she was in really good condition. Im thinking its the front windshield as well but the lady on the phone said it could be front or back. Guess we will have to find out once I go and get the test done on next pay day. Until then, no more car washes! ^_^
