A few months ago I got in a small fender-bender. Malibu was fine (couldn't even tell I hit something) but a couple days later, this thing fell down by my feet. I have no idea what it is. Don't know where it belongs. It would just hang there. I had asked by BF to look underneath and see if he can tell where it belongs but he couldn't get a good view. He tucked it away for the mean time but just this morning, it fell out again.

Can anyone tell what this is or where it belongs?

ETA: The other side is black. No other markings on the other sides that says what it is. This is the only side that has any wording on it.

Image is too small to read anything, but if there are no yellow connectors and/or yellow or orange locking devices on the connectors, then it's not an airbag module or an airbag itself. It's probably some device put in the car before you bought it used.

BTW, what year, etc is your car?

No colored connectors. The wires that connect are black.

Car was the dealers loaner before I got it.
I have a 2016 Malibu LT1

 found what it is. . .It's the OnStar backup battery.

You think I can just disconnect it since I don't use my OnStar?

If you disconnect it, you could kill OnStar dead, permanently. At least you'll know before you pull it.
