Hey anyone know what oil comes in 2009 malibus from factory,i heard from one dealer they thought it was mobile -not mobile 1 synthetic, just plain mobile 5w-30.I have always used ac filters and penzoil 10w-30...Should i stick with 5w-30 or 10w-30. I live inthe south so weather isnt to cold long,30-40 degrees. I am thinking about trying mobile oil if that comes from factory....anybody know..........Thanks

The factory will use what ever oil they get for the cheapest price in bulk. I would use whatever brand you are comfortable with, but would also stick with 5w-30.

I was told by the dealer not to use synthetic but to use Regular oil the first one or two oil changes. This will allow the rings to seat better. After that it is ok to use synthetic.
That is an old wives tale. Even some GM cars like the Corvette come with a Mobil 1 factory fill....so it has synthetic at 0 miles....

If you were to use a synthetic oil just get the oil filter with the replacement O-ring and swap it. The extra 2,000 miles the synthetic oil will take you can help offset the extra bucks you paid. Just my .02 cents, not that I think you must change it but it couldn't hurt.

Why stick with 5w-30....What about 10w30 isnt it ok in warmer weather....
If it doesnt get below freezing than 10w30 should be good as long as its a quality oil.

That being said, just stick with 5w30. There is never such a thing as too much protection when dealing with cold starts.

Stick with 5W30 dyno oil. When the oil is hot it is the same viscosity as the 10W30 and has a better viscosity for when the engine is cold. Even when its 70 degrees outside. If you use synthetic the OLM (which uses temperature and time to determine oil life) will not know that and will drop down at the same rate as it would with dyno oil. While you are under warranty you need to follow the factory oil change intervals which depend on the OLM. Trying to get the extra usage (miles) that synthetic can give you will not work as you will still be tossing the oil when you would have tossed the dyno oil.

Most tests I've read still say that good synthetic oil protects better. Even if you do throw it away sooner I think it's worth it. But each individual needs to do their own research.
