I have a 97 Malibu which runs fine. I'm enrolled in the Snapshot program with Progressive insurance and have been trying to get the transmitter to work but there is no response from the data port. The transmitter tested fine in my other car so I have been told to replace the fuse to the data port but nothing on the fuse panel indicates computer or data port.

I have been researching this all day, hope someone can help.

Is this something that plugs into the OBDII connector?

You have 3 fuse boxes in your car. One each at the ends of the dash, accessible with the front doors open, and one more in the engine compartment.

Have you checked all 3 of the locations?

I'm not sure what the connector is called - Progressive calls it the data port. It's below the steering wheel, where the code reader gets plugged in. I'm not sure why but the transmitter started working today after I visually checked almost every fuse and relay and cleaned some of them. I did check all three fuse boxes but nothing indicates being for the computer or data port and I do not have the manual.
Anyway, it's working now. Thanks for your reply, Eric.

That data port is also known as the OBDII or OBD2 port. There are many neato things that can plug in to it and use the available data. I have a cheapo bluetooth transmitter that plugs in there so I can read it with a computer, PDA, or smartphone.

Sounds like you might have had a bad connection in one of your fuse boxes and fixed it by pulling them out and putting them back in.

I repair electronic equipment for a living, and that is a good thing to do. Scrubs the oxidation off the contacts.

I once got my Daytime Running Lights to turn off, having been awakened by a concerned neighbor at 5AM, by tapping the top of the engine compartment fuse/relay box with my finger.

Glad you got it working!
