Hello,
is anyone having issue with key fob? I have 2017 2.0 premier. I got it 2 weeks ago. It only has 850 miles on it. I get a message on instrument cluster " Remote not detected" and I cannot use the key fob at all. The car does not recognize the key fob. I cant lock the car or even start it. I can only start it by placing it in the transmitter thing in the center console. It happened to me twice now. I thought its the battery, but its not because I changed the battery when it first happened. I thought someone put a defective battery on my fob. when I saw the message " Remote not detected" today, I realized its not the battery because I just changed it 2 weeks ago ( when I bought the car). It seems when I leave the car for like 5-10 mins, the problem goes away. Has anyone experienced this? Its really frustrating for a brand new car.

No. It happened to me on the day I bought the car (No LEDs on the car that time).I thought someone put a defective battery on the fob.

yah. I will. Thank you. I ll do that. Should I take the LEDs off of the car when I take it to the dealer? It kinda bothers me because i'm sure it has nothing to do with my LED bulbs.

Okey. I think I found the solution. I might be wrong, but I think this could be related to the 4G LTE OnStart system and WiFi of the car. This issue happen only when I turned on the 4G LTE and Wifi on the car. My guess is that when WiFi is on in the car, they may cause signal interference. This specially happens when there are multiple people in your car with their phone's WiFi. Its been almost 2 month this issue hasn't come back . Please turn off the car's WiFi and onStar 4G LTE hotspot and see if this happens again. Let us know how this goes .

Ok guys. I can confirm this is definitely has something to do with OnStar 4G LTE Hotspot . Yesterday, my trial date for OnStar just ended and it automatically turned the Hotspot on for some reason. And guess what happened? " Remote not detected" just like before! Turned off the Hotspot, drove 5 mins and everything went back to normal operation. This has never happened for the last three month when the hotspot was off. This happened every time I turned my hotspot ON. This is the 4th time.

I had this same problem this morning. I started the car with my OnStar app, and went to take my kid to school - but could not get in. Door buttons wouldn't work. Used OnStar to unlock - but kept saying fob not detected. Ended up having to take an Uber to take my kid to school. Got home 15 mins later, and all was fine. I was about to call for a towtruck. I called Chev, and they said to bring it in, and right away they swapped out the receiver and I was good to go. The TSB is bang on - and the dealer knew right away.
It's been one month since they replaced the receiver for me and the issue hasn't come back yet.

Yes. The receiver needs to be changed. I took my car to dealer and they changed it for me. No issue since then. I show them the video that key fob is acting up. This is funny, but my car would start without the key fob!!!

Hello,

That happen to me when I purchased June 2017 with Malibu. I was locked out of my car and only way I was able to get my luggage to call on star. When I took to dealership; they didn't do anything for me. I have gone to the same dealership 3 more times after that they have replace batteries on my 2 key fobs. Dealership personal accuse me way I drained the battery I don't know how? I had to pay for batteries and install fee, without letting me know. Once again it happen to me again, as of last night "No remote key was detected place key in transmitter pocket, then start your vehicle", I was not able to turn off or turn on my engine nor lock my car. I was able to lock using OnStar app on my phone. I am really frustrated. It happen to me random times. It sounds like you are experiencing what I'm experiencing. I will not returning to same dealership. Will call Chevy Service and explain and there is a TSB#16-na-396 have list of 2017 Malibu. In my personal opinion it's transmitter issue. if I find out more information and I will post more.
Dealer fixed this problem. There is known TSB for it. They need to replace receiver

Hello. I am having the exact same issue. I will hit 2 years and 30k miles in August.

4 days after purchasing car, battery dead would not power on. Then shortly after that service rear vision started showing up randomly on the dash. Shortly after that no remote detected when I was trying to enter or exit the car, finally 3 seperate times the car stated no remote detected while driving on the free way and cars engine cut off, and the AC "popped" and started shooting out hot air while the radio kept playing. Took the car in 2 times before this issue and they stated they fixed and replaced (replaced key fobs). After this happened the 3rd time I was close enough to coast the car to them and show the issue. They then decided it was the 6 sense and pulled out the 6 sense and replaced it. Here I am 6 month later and exact same issues came back first service rear vision, second no remote detected and the cutting engine off while driving. It's currently at the dealership and they are claiming it's the bsttety (state that it's failing, battery is barely 1.5 years old) and that both of the 6 month old key fobs batteries are dead. I've refused to pick the car up until they can actually confirm this is the issue. But at this point I'm ready to call this car a lemon.
Take it to dealer. There is known TSB for it. They need to replace key fob receiver
