Ok so I have a specific question. I know that the upper trim levels with the mylink options have the ambient lighting strips in the dash and doors. The LS does not come with that, however I was able to obtain all of the lighting strips from my local salvage yard and was wondering if the LS trim levels were prewired for the ambient lighting. If not then I was just planning on tapping into the backlighting for the radio etc, can anybody tell me which wires power the backlighting?

About 10 years ago, it was reported that the Gen7 Malibu used to have the fog light wiring in place even if you didn't have the fog lights. This allowed dealers and others to add them, then flash the BCM to be able to operate it, and all was well.
During the Gen7 run, that stopped being the case.
That said, if your car doesn't have the feature then you likely don't have the plugs in place to just add the lighting. You'll have to actually find the wiring like @repairman54 kindly described and do some cutting and splicing, or pay someone to do it for you.
