2016 LT 1.5
137,000 miles
I have run across my first Malibu problem of 2023. Once a month or so I run an "all modules" fault code scan using my BlueDriver. Occasionally I find a random benign U code for something like a TPMS slow return or something like that. Today I got a P050D - cold start rough idle stored in the ECM. It isn't active, pending, or permanent. Just hanging out in the ECM. I can clear it and rescan and it is there again without even going through a cold start routine that would trigger it. I drove 3 cycles to see if it would naturally disappear like a pending code and it didn't. I scanned with my cheaper OBDLink using torque pro and didn't pull any code.
I have no symptoms. No rough idle, no power loss, no fuel economy loss, no hard/slow start, nothing. There is no check engine light on. If I hadn't scanned I wouldn't know anything was up.
Here's generic potential causes but...
What are the Possible Causes of the Code P050D?
There is a preliminary info bulletin about failure to diagnose P050D. If normal diagnosis doesn't lead anywhere it says check the hydraulic lash adjuster. That's an 8 hour job and never became a full bulletin, just a preliminary info release.
I also reached out to BlueDriver support about a potential bug and info as to why it isn't clearing. They said it was strange I have two entries for ECM in my results. They asked for the logs so I sent to them and wait for any info. Anyone have thoughts?

What are the Possible Causes of the Code P050D?
- Faulty or clogged Fuel Injector
- Fuel Injector harness is open or shorted
- Fuel Injector circuit poor electrical connection
- Failing Coolant Temp Sensor
- Vacuum leak
- This DTC may be set with a misfire DTC, however the existence of this DTC is a higher priority and indicates the condition to diagnose is related to fuel and/or injectors, not the ignition/spark system
- High resistance in the circuits of the injectors could set this DTC without setting an injector DTC. Test the injector circuits of the affected cylinders for a high resistance if you suspect a condition
- A drop in system voltage during cold start may set this DTC
