I had our 2013 Malibu turbo in last year for a rattle noise. I can't remember what the part was called. I replaced it but now its doing it again ugh!! The part is below the engine cover on the driver side it is fairly close to the top of the engine and bolts in with three bolts. It rattles in direct relation to the engine RPM's. Any help on the part name and why it keeps going out.

heat shield vibrating???...especially during this cold weather, the car should idle a bit higher while warming up...I get a tinny metal vibrating sound on my Cadillac usually in the Winter time that I believe is directly related to cold start idle...
Can you find your original service receipt, it will help in knowing what your issues is...

Non of the above is the part. I replaced the part myself after having it diagnosed. So the only place would be a receipt from where I ordered but I dont unfortuantely have that. Its not just at start up, its always there. All I can remember is the tech saying the seal or flap wears and is what makes the noise. It has three 10mm bolts and is about 3 inches in diameter with one electrical connection.
Seriously, wdiamond, the PCV system on a turbocharged engine is much more complicated than on a normally aspirated engine. The latter being a simple PCV valve somewhere on the top side of the engine. Here is a generic diagram of a PCV system on a turbocharged engine. My daughter's VW 2.0T FSI engine's PCV system is even more complicated than this. Lots of potential for rattles.

That diagram looks like it's a PCV valve and oil catch can combined into a single unit, with the added benefit of the oil drain being plumbed directly back to the oil pan. Add-on catch cans require occasional maintenance to check and empty them, so that one looks ideal since it does the job and requires little or no attention!

I'm still waiting for GM (or someone) to use a Flux Capacitor on a hybrid! (Or say they did...)

The answer is the Vacuum Pump I was able to get my phone down under it and take a picture of the part number and look it up.
