No unless you do a lot of HEAVY modifications, and to me its not worth it. Put in a 3800 supercharged v6 from a 95-99 grand prix or like a buick regal GS. Make it a true sleeper.

I said the 3400 V6 because I assumed you wanted something basically plug and play.

If you're going to put some effort into this, I suggest looking into the 3800 Supercharged from the early 2000s Monte Carlo/Impala SS, Buick Regal GS, and Grand Prix GXP. That will get your Malibu hauling ass. That engine had 240 horsepower/280 lb-ft of torque with potential to make 280 hp/320 tq on easy mods.

But remember, if you grab a powertrain like that, you need the transmission, computer, and wiring from the car you pull it from.

1999 Buick regal(supercharged)

Something like this would work for you. A 3800 should fit nicely in your engine bay of your malibu. But you buy a car like this (disregard the bad motor) you got everything you need from wiring, to engine and tranny and even interior and wheels. If you got the time and patience and can tackle on this kind of project, that car would be a heck of a sleeper.

There is a guy on youtube that took on a project like this and noone can catch this car.

Will this Engine fit?

im tying to swap and replace my old engine with a 3800 supercharged v6 Engine i need to know for sure will this engine fit in my Malibu 2001 and if it dose do i have to do any changes or modifications for everything to work properly like harness, motor mounts, transmission ect?

I merged your two threads together. Please do not make duplicate threads to get more responses.

To answer your question: yes it will be expensive, yes you need the wiring harness, transmission, etc. The N-body platform never housed a 3800 V6 from factory, so fitment will require some custom work, which is an expensive phrase.

This forum isn't going to be your ideal source for engine swapping info. Before you do anything, consult a GM modding expert that knows the ins and outs of the 3800 Supercharged.

In my mind, if my plans were to swap in a bigger engine and "custom work" was the first thing I heard, I'd consider going whole-hog and converting it to a RWD V8, but that's just me ...

Re: Good Engine that fit inside a 2001 malibu?

in my opinion if i may state it, i would drop the 3800 idea stick with the 3400 or 3500 swap. I live in dayton ohio and my buddy drives a grand am thats a 12 second car.....and guess what motor it has....a 3.4....didnt cost him much to do.

Re: Good Engine that fit inside a 2001 malibu?

The blocks are the same. All youll need to worry about is electronics such as the throttle body(3500 is drive-by-wire) so youll use your 3400 intake and throttle body....motor mounts may or may not need swapped...its minor stuff like that essentially. I know all this because my 01' grand prix was converted to a 3.5 i did myself

The 3.1 and 3.5 are basically compatible... Find an early 3.5, and you don't have to worry about variable valve timing(but lose 10hp), just swap your 3.1 intake onto... Plug up the sensors and run it off the 3.1 PCM... For optimal results, of course you want to get it tuned, but it's possible nonetheless...
